Kuwait and China are moving ahead with a series of major development projects under their strategic partnership, as agreements signed in 2023 continue to translate into infrastructure, energy and technology initiatives.
The latest milestone came with the signing of a construction and operation contract for the North Kabd Technology Station, making it the second project to enter the implementation stage under the bilateral memoranda of understanding.
The station is expected to strengthen Kuwait’s wastewater treatment infrastructure, improve environmental sustainability and support the country’s long-term urban development plans.
The project builds on agreements signed in September 2023 between Kuwait’s Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The partnership covers key sectors including renewable energy, housing, environmental protection, free zones and the strategic Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port.
Cooperation expanded further in March 2025 when both countries signed a framework agreement in Beijing to accelerate renewable energy projects at Shagaya Phases Three and Four and the Abdaliya project.
Officials from both sides have since held regular meetings to address implementation challenges, speed up project delivery and deepen cooperation in support of Kuwait’s economic diversification plans.
Another significant step came in December 2025 with the signing of the engineering, procurement and construction contract for Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port, widely seen as the first major project to emerge from the Kuwait-China partnership.
The port is expected to enhance Kuwait’s maritime infrastructure, boost trade capacity and strengthen the country’s role in regional and international shipping networks.
Kuwait has also established dedicated committees to oversee the implementation of the agreements, while the government says it remains committed to expanding cooperation with China and advancing strategic projects that support sustainable economic growth.
