Oman’s OLIO olive oil project has earned three gold medals at international competitions, reinforcing the reputation of Jabal Akhdar’s extra virgin olive oil as a product capable of competing with leading global brands.
The award-winning oil secured top honors at the Abu Dhabi International Olive Oil Competition, the European International Olive Oil Competition (EIOOC) in Geneva, and the Scandinavian International Oil Competition (SIOOC).
The achievements highlight the growing international recognition of Oman’s oil industry and the quality of olives cultivated in the highlands of Jabal Akhdar.
The competitions also evaluate extra virgin oils using strict international standards, assessing both chemical composition and sensory characteristics through panels of expert judges.
To preserve freshness and quality, the oil is stored in food-grade stainless steel tanks protected from light, heat and oxygen after pressing. Nitrogen is introduced into the containers before bottling to reduce oxidation, while the final product is packaged in opaque bottles to maintain its quality until it reaches consumers.
The OLIO brand takes its name from oleocanthal, a naturally occurring compound found in extra virgin olive oil that is associated with various health benefits. The brand is officially registered with Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry as well as Investment Promotion.
