Oman And Iran Discuss Regional Stability And Hormuz

Oman and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to regional stability and cooperation during high-level talks in Muscat that also addressed the recent memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.

Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi met Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, who was accompanied by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during an official visit to the Sultanate.

The discussions focused on bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation between the two neighbouring countries, alongside an exchange of views on the latest regional developments.

Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining diplomatic engagement to support peace efforts, reduce tensions and reinforce stability across the region. They also highlighted the need to uphold international law and good-neighbourly relations as key principles for preserving regional security.

The talks underscored the strategic importance of safeguarding maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and other international waterways, amid continued concerns over regional security.

Following the meeting, Al Busaidi said on social media platform X that discussions regarding the recent Iran-US memorandum of understanding had been constructive, particularly on provisions related to the Strait of Hormuz.

He added that the talks reflected a shared commitment to international law and ensuring safe and uninterrupted passage through vital maritime routes.
