India Repatriates Bodies After Gulf Ship Attack

The Indian Embassy in Oman has confirmed the repatriation of the mortal remains of two Indian nationals who were killed in an attack on the vessel MT Settebello.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, the embassy said the remains of Aditya Sharma and Shivanand Chaurasiya were returned to India and extended condolences to their families.

The vessel came under fire last week after US forces accused it of violating a naval blockade linked to Iranian ports. Of the 24 Indian crew members on board, 21 were rescued, while three were later confirmed dead.

The incident has drawn diplomatic reactions from New Delhi, with India registering its protest to US officials over the attack, which it described as unjustified. Indian authorities also raised concerns over the safety of commercial shipping in the Gulf region.

The case has added to wider discussions on maritime security in key shipping lanes, with officials stressing the need to protect seafarers and ensure the uninterrupted flow of global trade.
