Oman and Canada discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and address regional developments during a meeting between their foreign ministers in Bahrain on Wednesday.
Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi met Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand on the sidelines of the third GCC-Canada joint ministerial meeting in Manama.
The talks focused on expanding cooperation in economic and scientific fields, as well as increasing investment and tourism opportunities between the two countries. The ministers also reviewed progress following Anand’s visit to Muscat in April.
Regional tensions and ongoing security challenges were also discussed, with both sides stressing the importance of diplomatic efforts to reduce escalation and restore stability.
Following the meeting, Al Busaidi said Oman and Canada shared similar views on the need for practical and fair solutions to ensure the safety of maritime navigation and maintain the flow of global supply chains.
He reiterated Oman’s longstanding policy of supporting peaceful coexistence, good neighbourly relations and adherence to international law and agreements.
The discussions come amid growing international concern over regional instability and its impact on trade routes and economic activity.
