Qatar Wins Snooker Gold at Gulf Games Doha 2026

Qatar claimed another gold medal at the Gulf Games after national player Ali Al Obaidli won the 15-red snooker singles title at the Gulf Games Doha 2026, defeating Saudi Arabia’s Ziyad Alqabani in the final.

Al Obaidli delivered a dominant performance in Monday’s final, taking control early in the match and securing a straight 3-0 victory. He established a 2-0 lead before closing out the third frame to confirm his win in the billiards and snooker competition.

The result adds to Qatar’s overall medal tally at the regional event and highlights growing competition in cue sports across the Gulf, where participation and investment in snooker and billiards have increased in recent years.

Following his victory, Al Obaidli said the achievement reflected months of preparation and expressed pride in representing his country at the Gulf Games Doha 2026. He dedicated the win to supporters in Qatar and noted the high level of competition throughout the tournament.

He also said his performance at the multi-sport event would motivate him to continue improving after securing multiple medals across different categories during the Games.

Officials from the Asian Snooker Federation praised the final, describing the result as part of the continued development of snooker talent in the region. They also commended the organisation of the event, noting strong participation and competitive standards among Gulf nations.

The Gulf Games Doha 2026 has brought together athletes from across the region in a range of sports, with Qatar hosting the multi-sport competition amid broader efforts to strengthen its role as a regional sporting hub.

Organisers and sports officials have highlighted the event’s atmosphere and turnout, underscoring Doha’s capacity to stage major regional and international sporting competitions.
