Oman Sets Meeting for Dhu Al Hijjah Moon Sighting

The Sultanate of Oman is set to convene its Supreme Committee for the Sighting of the Crescent of Dhu Al Hijjah on Sunday evening to determine the beginning of the Islamic lunar month, according to the Oman News Agency.

The meeting will take place at the General Diwan of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs and will focus on confirming the sighting of the crescent moon that marks the start of Dhu Al Hijjah 1447 AH, the final month in the Islamic calendar.

Authorities have called on citizens and residents to participate in the observation process by reporting any confirmed sightings of the crescent, as part of the official religious procedure followed in the country.

Oman committee to meet for Dhu Al Hijjah crescent sighting as part of wider regional coordination, with neighbouring countries also preparing to observe the lunar phase to determine the start of the Islamic month.

In a broader regional context, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have also announced calls for moon sighting on the same date, reflecting coordinated efforts across the Gulf to unify the start of Islamic months where possible.

The beginning of Dhu Al Hijjah holds religious significance, as it precedes the annual Hajj pilgrimage and Eid al-Adha, two of the most important events in the Islamic calendar.

Final confirmation of the month’s start will depend on the outcome of the moon sighting and the committee’s official announcement following Sunday’s meeting.
