Oman Calls for Diplomacy Amid Middle East Escalations at Arab League Session

Oman highlighted the critical importance of regional security during its participation in the Arab League Council’s extraordinary ministerial session. The meeting, held via video conference on Sunday, focused on recent military escalations in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing Israeli-American actions against Iran. The session examined the serious repercussions these hostilities pose for the region’s stability and security.

Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi led Oman’s delegation and addressed the council on the urgent need for dialogue. He warned that prioritizing force over diplomacy escalates political, economic, and security risks for all countries involved. The Minister emphasized that civilian populations across the Arab and Islamic world deserve peace and must not be drawn into conflicts not their own.

Sayyid Badr noted that the attacks on Iran came at a time when diplomatic negotiations were making progress. He stressed that the Iranian responses, targeting multiple sites in the region, constitute violations of sovereignty. Oman stands in solidarity with nations defending themselves but urges all parties to pursue diplomacy instead of further escalation.

The Minister urged Arab states to move beyond statements of condemnation, emphasizing that real impact requires coordinated political and diplomatic efforts. He advocated for shared responsibility to protect regional security and stressed that diplomacy must address the conflict’s root causes. Sayyid Badr highlighted that international concerns regarding Iran can only be resolved through dialogue, not force.

He further called on all parties to adopt a truthful approach grounded in human values, emphasizing justice in confronting aggression regardless of the perpetrator. Sayyid Badr welcomed recent Iranian statements proposing de-escalation and immediate negotiations for a binding non-aggression pact. Such agreements could prevent neighboring countries from entering further conflict, he stressed.

The Minister warned that continued hostilities threaten maritime navigation, supply chains, and the global economy. He reiterated that the highest priority is to intensify political and diplomatic efforts, preserve peace, and safeguard regional security.

On X social media, Sayyid Badr described the actions of Israel and the US against Iran as immoral and illegal. However, he also condemned Iran’s retaliatory strikes, calling them deeply regrettable. He urged all sides to exercise restraint, cease hostilities, and return to diplomacy.
