Bahrain Strengthens Global Role at Space Debris Conference 2026

Bahrain’s active participation in international space forums showcased its commitment to sustainable space activities. At the second edition of the Space Debris Conference 2026, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain joined global experts to discuss solutions for the growing challenge of space debris. Moreover, the event highlighted the importance of international collaboration, innovative technologies, and regulatory alignment. As a result, Bahrain’s active participation in international space forums emphasized its strategic focus on space sustainability.

The conference, organized by the Saudi Space Agency in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), attracted over 75 countries. Leading scientists, engineers, and representatives from space companies attended to exchange knowledge. Furthermore, workshops and discussion panels covered both technical and regulatory challenges, aiming to ensure safe and sustainable access to space.

Bahrain was represented by the CEO of the Bahrain Space Agency, Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Asiri, and Senior Space Engineer Munira Jassim Al-Maliki. They actively participated in discussions, workshops, and collaborative sessions designed to share experiences and review international best practices. Consequently, Bahrain contributed expertise and strengthened its visibility in the global space sector.

Key topics included the increasing number of satellites in orbit, the technical risks of space debris, and the need for coordinated regulatory frameworks. Experts emphasized that growing space activities require integrated international responses. Additionally, a dedicated workshop on “Space Diplomacy,” organized by the Saudi Space Future Center and the European Space Policy Institute, trained participants on building diplomatic capacity for space governance. Munira Jassim Al-Maliki participated in the workshop, sharing Bahrain’s national experience and insights.

Dr. Al-Asiri highlighted that attending international conferences helps Bahrain stay updated on global developments. He stressed that participation promotes strategic partnerships, knowledge exchange, and alignment with international standards. Moreover, such efforts support the country’s ambition to secure a sustainable and prosperous future in the space economy.

Engineer Al-Maliki added that workshops like Space Diplomacy create bridges between technical expertise and policy-making. They strengthen the country’s capacity to contribute to responsible space governance. The sessions reinforced Bahrain’s determination to integrate national priorities with international sustainability frameworks.

Overall, Bahrain’s active participation in international space forums reaffirmed the nation’s role in shaping global space policies. The conference highlighted the importance of combining technical innovation with diplomatic engagement. Consequently, Bahrain continues to strengthen its position as a forward-looking and responsible member of the international space community.
