Oman Aims to Create 60,000 Jobs in 2026 to Boost Employment Opportunities

Oman’s Ministry of Labour announced an ambitious target for 2026, aiming to provide 60,000 job opportunities across public and private sectors. The ministry highlighted that creating these opportunities will strengthen national employment and empower citizens through training programs.

During a media briefing, the Ministry of Labour reviewed its 2025 achievements. Last year, Oman created 36,413 direct jobs and offered 15,069 employment opportunities through training-linked programs. In addition, 18 sectoral committees announced 13,000 positions, while the freelance work system registered 2,300 professions, helping more than 4,000 Omanis secure technical and leadership roles.

Furthermore, the ministry successfully negotiated terminated employment cases, retaining 713 positions in 2025. It renewed 2,146 contracts and retained 4,388 cases through follow-up actions. Additionally, 660 beneficiaries received support under the Job Security Benefit scheme.

Oman has also ensured compliance in labour market practices. Over 141,000 establishments operate under the Wage Protection System, with more than 91,000 demonstrating full adherence to regulations. The ministry achieved a 95 percent improvement in performance under the Individual Performance Excellence System.

Looking ahead, the Ministry of Labour outlined priorities for 2026–2027. These include accelerating employment for jobseekers, expanding freelance work, and developing programs for individuals with special circumstances. Moreover, authorities aim to strengthen legislation and improve national competencies for effective labour market inspections.

The Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2026–2030) includes 17 strategic programs aligned with future labour market trends. Of these, 12 programs focus on employment and labour market development. Human resources initiatives are also advancing, with 300 employees gaining Thomas International certification, and 89 percent of government units mapping leadership traits under the Ejada Human Resources Matrix.

Specifically, the ministry plans to provide 60,000 job opportunities in 2026, with 10,000 in government roles, 33,000 in the private sector, and 17,000 through national training and qualification programs. Moreover, efforts continue to support citizens from low-income families and persons with disabilities, including allocating financial grades in government positions.

The ministry stressed that these efforts, combined with initiatives like the “Sahem” program, aim to ensure sustainable employment, enhance national competencies, and contribute to Oman’s overall economic growth.

By focusing on 60,000 job opportunities, Oman reinforces its commitment to workforce development and creating thriving labour market for citizens.
