Iraq Secures Borders Amid Syria Clashes and Escalating Tensions

Iraq secures borders as fighting escalates in northeastern Syria, and authorities warn that no one should approach the frontier. Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari said troops monitor the border around the clock. He added that anyone trying to cross would face immediate gunfire.

The minister explained that Iraqi authorities predicted these events three years ago and acted early. Furthermore, the border has a 620-kilometer trench for added security. In addition, thermal cameras work day and night at key points. These measures show that Iraq secures borders with strong planning and constant vigilance.

Al-Shammari stated that troops along the frontier have full equipment and enough personnel. Moreover, reserve units remain ready to act if needed. Army Aviation and the Air Force also support security operations. Altogether, these steps confirm that Iraq secures borders through organized military strength.

Meanwhile, clashes erupted in northeastern Syria after a ceasefire and integration deal between the Syrian transitional authorities and Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces failed. Fighting took place around towns and detention centers, including prisons holding Islamic State prisoners. As a result, the SDF reported casualties and lost control over some sites, causing prison breaks and chaos.

The SDF called for youth mobilization to defend territory. The agreement had aimed to stop fighting, integrate Kurdish forces into the Syrian army, and hand key areas to Damascus. However, violations occurred quickly, showing that regional security remains unstable.

In addition, Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces arrested a senior Islamic State commander who crossed from Syria into Mosul desert. He planned attacks and oversaw IS cells in both Iraq and Syria. This arrest highlights Iraq secures borders while actively countering threats from extremist groups.

Overall, Iraq secures borders through reinforced defenses, constant monitoring, and rapid deployment of troops. These efforts keep the country stable and prevent the conflict in Syria from spreading. Authorities continue to strengthen the frontier and respond to regional challenges, showing Iraq’s commitment to protecting citizens and sovereignty.
