Kuwait Advances Maritime Security and Gulf Cooperation

Kuwait strengthened its commitment to maritime and security cooperation during two key meetings this week. First, the 13th session of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi Joint Technical and Legal Committee on maritime borders took place in Baghdad. Officials from both countries reviewed progress on finalizing maritime boundaries beyond Marker 162. They reaffirmed that international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea guide their work. By holding regular meetings, both sides aim to maintain transparency and resolve technical and legal issues efficiently.

The Kuwaiti delegation focused on the importance of continued dialogue with Iraq to ensure clear and secure maritime borders. Officials noted that such collaboration promotes stability in shared waters and strengthens regional trust. Moreover, these talks help prevent disputes and encourage peaceful cooperation. Through these measures, Kuwait continues to demonstrate its dedication to regional security and legal compliance.

Separately, Kuwait reviewed preparations for the Gulf-wide tactical exercise “Arabian Gulf Security 4,” hosted in Qatar this month. Major General Abdulwahab Al-Waheeb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, led discussions with heads of participating sectors. He show cased that the exercise enhances maritime and security cooperation across Gulf Cooperation Council countries. In addition, he stressed that teamwork and coordination in the field are essential to handle emergencies and crises effectively.

Officials praised the readiness of all participating units and emphasized representing Kuwait with professionalism and discipline. They added that exercises like this improve operational integration among Gulf security agencies. Consequently, these activities reinforce trust, build capacity, and ensure joint preparedness for regional challenges. By combining training with strategic planning, Kuwait strengthens its role in maintaining Gulf security.

The meeting also addressed operational readiness, including traffic, corrections, and private security sectors. Coordinators reviewed deployment plans and participation strategies to maximize efficiency. Officials confirmed that such exercises reflect Kuwait’s proactive approach to maritime and security cooperation. These efforts not only support national defense but also contribute to stability and safety across the Gulf region.

Finally, Kuwait reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to working closely with neighboring states. By fostering open dialogue, joint exercises, and regular coordination, the country ensures that challenges are addressed effectively. Through diplomacy and strategic collaboration, Kuwait continues to promote regional peace and strengthen maritime and security cooperation for the benefit of all Gulf nations.
