Sharjah Literature Festival Showcases Emirati Creativity and Cultural Dialogue

The second Sharjah Literature Festival concluded this week, highlighting Emirati literary talent across a week of events. The festival celebrated authors, publishers, artists, and media figures while promoting a culture of reading and creativity. Emirati literary talent was at the center of the festival, uniting audiences through stories, discussions, and performances.

Held under the theme “A Society Woven Through Stories,” the festival began on January 5 in Sharjah. It featured intellectual sessions, poetry evenings, creative workshops, music performances, theater shows, and book exhibitions. Emirati literary talent was prominently displayed through readings, seminars, and presentations by both established and emerging creators.

Additionally, Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the Emirates Publishers Association, praised the event for providing a valuable platform for dialogue and creativity. He emphasized that the festival supports reading culture, promotes young Emirati creators, and strengthens the publishing sector. The large public turnout reflected the festival’s growing prominence in Sharjah’s cultural calendar.

Throughout the festival, workshops encouraged participants to explore writing techniques and storytelling. Musical and theatrical performances complemented literary discussions, making the event engaging and diverse. Forty-two Emirati publishing houses participated, presenting new books and literary works. Visitors enjoyed interactive reading sessions and opportunities to purchase books directly from authors and publishers.

In addition, the festival facilitated exchanges between generations, allowing young writers to learn from seasoned authors. The event also strengthened connections between Emirati literary talent and the broader cultural community, fostering dialogue and sharing knowledge. Strategic partnerships, including support from the University City of Sharjah, helped organize programs and reach larger audiences.

The festival highlighted literature as a unifying force. By celebrating Emirati literary talent, the event reinforced the importance of culture, identity, and dialogue in society. Organizers expressed commitment to continue expanding the festival, making it a global platform for creativity, knowledge, and cultural exchange.

As the second edition closes, the Sharjah Literature Festival leaves a lasting impact by promoting Emirati literary talent, supporting creators, as well as inspiring audiences. The festival demonstrates that storytelling can bridge generations, enrich cultural life, and strengthen community bonds.
