Kerala Flood Relief Funds in Oman Reallocated to Strengthen Indian Schools

Authorities redirected funds collected in Oman for Kerala flood relief in 2019 to support Indian schools in Oman. The money came from Indian schools after a request from the Indian Social Club in Muscat. However, unclear transfer instructions prevented it from reaching Kerala. Therefore, officials decided to use the funds locally to improve infrastructure and assist students. This step highlights the critical role of Indian schools in Oman for the expatriate community.

The Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman reviewed the situation carefully. They confirmed the board held the funds securely and accounted for them fully. Because the board could not transfer money outside Oman independently, repeated follow-ups with the Indian Social Club failed to resolve the issue. Consequently, redirecting the funds locally became the most responsible solution.

Officials also stressed the financial challenges faced by Indian schools in Oman after the COVID-19 pandemic. Many parents experienced income losses, which affected fee collections, the primary revenue source. Additionally, schools in remote areas such as Masirah, Khasab, Thumrait, Rustaq, Duqm, and Saham operate with limited resources. Yet, these schools continue to educate Indian children. By redirecting funds, authorities ensure schools maintain operations and improve learning conditions.

The board approved the fund allocation through a transparent vote. They will invest the money exclusively in student welfare and infrastructure improvements. Furthermore, officials emphasized that the funds strengthen Indian schools in Oman while respecting the community’s original contributions. By prioritizing remote schools, authorities bridge gaps between interior schools and those in major cities. In addition, this strategy supports long-term sustainability and educational equity.

Officials rejected allegations of impropriety and reaffirmed their commitment to responsible fund management. They argued that the decision benefits the wider Indian educational ecosystem in Oman. With this reallocation, Indian schools in Oman receive essential support for both students and staff. Moreover, it improves learning opportunities and promotes long-term community development. Overall, redirecting funds demonstrates a practical, ethical, and effective approach to unutilized resources.
