UAE Court Resolves Dh100,000 Vehicle Plate Dispute Through Sworn Oaths

A high-value vehicle plate in Al Ain sparked a heated legal dispute over ownership in the UAE. The case involved a Dh100,000 plate, and the conflict arose when one man claimed he had entrusted the plate to another. Later, he discovered it had been registered in a third person’s name. Feeling wronged, he took the matter to court, seeking confirmation of ownership and demanding the plate’s return.

During the hearings, all parties appeared personally with their lawyers. The defendants submitted written responses denying the plaintiff’s claim. They argued that he lacked supporting evidence. In response, the plaintiff requested that the court administer a decisive oath. This legal tool allows courts to settle disputes through sworn testimony when other evidence remains insufficient.

The court required each defendant to swear separately, firmly denying the plaintiff’s claim. After evaluating the oaths, the Al Ain Court for Civil, Commercial and Administrative Cases ruled in favor of the defendants. The court concluded that the sworn statements resolved the dispute and dismissed the case in full.

This ruling demonstrates how decisive oaths can quickly resolve civil disputes when evidence is limited. It also highlights the importance of clear documentation when transferring valuable vehicle plates in the UAE.

Experts point out that vehicle plates can carry significant financial and symbolic value. They advise people to register plates carefully and formalize any transfer agreements to avoid similar conflicts. Courts actively enforce property rights, and this decision reinforces that following proper legal procedures ensures fair outcomes.

Furthermore, the case underscores the need for trust and formal agreements when handling high-value plates. Authorities urge citizens to use official channels and legal protections to prevent misunderstandings and secure smooth transactions.

Ultimately, the case reflects how UAE courts balance tradition, law, and practical solutions in civil disputes. Sworn oaths provided an efficient and legally binding method to resolve a complex ownership conflict, showing the effectiveness of this longstanding legal mechanism.
