Minzal Brings Saudi Traditions to Life in Diriyah

This season, Minzal in Diriyah highlights Saudi cultural heritage, giving visitors a hands-on experience of Bedouin values, crafts, and traditions. The event combines workshops, performances, and demonstrations to educate participants about the Kingdom’s rich history.

Tents set up across the site teach “Sloum Al-Arab,” the traditional code of behavior emphasizing generosity, courage, hospitality, and archery. Visitors enjoy social gatherings around campfires, participate in coffee ceremonies, and stargaze while learning about local customs. This immersive approach allows participants to experience Saudi cultural heritage in practical ways.

Leather crafting is a central focus of Minzal’s workshops. Trainers guide visitors in working with goat, cow, Sawakni sheep, and camel leather. Participants learn traditional techniques while creating unique pieces. Craft experts emphasize the importance of preserving these skills, connecting modern experiences with centuries-old traditions.

Archery also plays a major role in the event, reflecting its significance in Arab and Islamic history. Professional archers demonstrate standing archery, horseback archery, and various bow styles used for hunting and protection. Visitors can observe techniques passed down through generations, fostering appreciation for the sport and its cultural importance.

Saudi coffee ceremonies further enhance the experience, symbolizing hospitality and generosity. Demonstrators roast beans, grind them with spices, and prepare coffee in the traditional Nigr method. Guests learn how coffee traditions connect families and communities, while also gaining insight into social norms embedded in Saudi cultural heritage.

Visual arts and crafts complement the activities, allowing participants to create traditional pieces under expert guidance. Artists encourage visitors to leave with personalized souvenirs while preserving the Kingdom’s artistic heritage.

Minzal’s combination of workshops, performances, and demonstrations ensures visitors experience a full spectrum of Saudi cultural heritage. The festival connects participants with traditions, sports, and arts while making learning both fun and meaningful.

By celebrating Bedouin values, handicrafts, archery, and coffee ceremonies, Minzal continues to preserve and promote Saudi cultural heritage. The event strengthens identity, fosters intergenerational learning, and positions Diriyah as a hub for cultural tourism in the Kingdom.
