Shura Council Reviews Key Government Responses to Enhance Oman’s Development

The Shura Council Office met on Sunday to review responses from various ministries, focusing on national development priorities. This session examined feedback on proposals and follow-up requests submitted by Council members.

The Council discussed the creation of a long-term cultural visa valid for ten years. Officials highlighted that such a visa could boost tourism, cultural exchange, and long-term engagement, reflecting Oman’s focus on national development priorities.

Moreover, the Council reviewed measures to improve telecommunication services in the country. The government confirmed ongoing upgrades to infrastructure and service quality. These steps support faster growth and broader national development priorities.

The Projects, Tenders, and Local Content Authority shared updates on allocating at least 10% of government purchases to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The Council emphasized the role of SMEs in economic growth and sustainable national development priorities.

Omanisation in cybersecurity jobs was another topic. The government outlined plans to strengthen local workforce participation in critical areas, which supports wider national development priorities.

Social development issues were also discussed. The Council reviewed plans to provide social security for families affected by layoffs or financial hardship. Officials stressed measures to ensure stability for vulnerable groups.

The Council also looked at health and education concerns. Ministries outlined preventive steps to limit the spread of seasonal viruses in schools and public spaces. These programs aim to protect public health and ensure safe learning environments.

This review took place during the sixth ordinary meeting of the third annual session of the tenth term (2025-2026). Members emphasized collaboration and follow-up to ensure government actions achieve measurable results.

Through this session, the Shura Council reinforced its oversight role and commitment to supporting sustainable development, social welfare, as well as government efficiency. The discussions highlighted the ongoing alignment of policies with Oman’s long-term vision, keeping national development priorities at the core of governance.
