Erdogan’s Upcoming Visit Strengthens Kuwait-Turkiye Cooperation

Turkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Kuwait, reaffirming Kuwait-Turkiye relations and strengthening decades of collaboration. Kuwaiti Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Adwani highlighted the visit’s significance in a Tuesday statement.

Erdogan will meet Kuwait’s Amir to discuss regional and bilateral cooperation. This demonstrates the deep partnership between the two nations. The ambassador noted that exchanging visits and signing agreements reinforces trust and shared goals.

He added that Kuwait-Turkiye relations survived tests, including the 1990 Iraqi invasion when Turkiye supported Kuwait’s liberation through an international coalition. Economic cooperation has grown steadily since 2000. Both countries share similar positions in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and GCC-Turkiye framework.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kuwait and Turkiye supported each other, reflecting the resilience of their Kuwait-Turkiye relations. Kuwait also aided Turkiye after the 2023 earthquake affecting Syria. Kuwait contributed about USD 30 million directly to victims. Total donations, including government and public campaigns, reached USD 97.7 million, highlighting humanitarian collaboration.

The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has cooperated with Turkiye since 1979, starting with a power project loan. In 2016, KFAED signed a USD 20 million agreement to assist Syrian refugees, providing health and education services. This initiative formed part of Kuwait’s USD 500 million pledge during the 2015 donors’ conference for Syria.

Erdogan’s visit will reaffirm political and economic ties while opening new opportunities for partnership in humanitarian and regional matters. In conclusion, the visit highlights decades of friendship, shared goals, and active collaboration. Kuwait and Turkiye continue to strengthen Kuwait-Turkiye relations.
