Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Honored with Interpol’s Highest Medal

Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef Saud Al-Sabah received Interpol’s Medal of the Highest Order in Lyon on Friday. The award celebrated Kuwait’s decades of international security cooperation and its active role in global crime prevention.

Therefore, the medal was presented by Interpol Secretary General Major General Dr Ahmed Al-Raisi. Kuwait’s Ambassador to France Abdullah Al-Shahin also attended the ceremony. The recognition marks the highest distinction granted by Interpol to leaders advancing global safety, counterterrorism, and transnational crime prevention.

Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia’s Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif and Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló received the same honor. Sheikh Fahad’s recognition underscored Kuwait’s trusted partnership and growing influence in international security cooperation.

During his visit, Sheikh Fahad reaffirmed Kuwait’s dedication to promoting global peace and safety. He recalled Kuwait’s membership in Interpol since 1965, emphasizing that unity and coordination among nations remain vital in tackling terrorism and organized crime.

However, he highlighted Kuwait’s integration of Interpol’s databases across its borders, ports, and airports. These systems have enhanced border protection and enabled the detection of stolen passports and wanted individuals. Sheikh Fahad noted that Kuwait has seconded officers to Interpol’s General Secretariat in Lyon and its Innovation Center in Singapore.

He discussed Kuwait’s involvement in pioneering projects such as the Artificial Intelligence initiative and the Silver Notice program. Focuses on asset recovery and financial crime prevention. He said these efforts demonstrate Kuwait’s commitment to innovation in global policing.

The discussions in Lyon covered cybercrime, smuggling, and data-sharing strategies. Both sides agreed on the importance of improving real-time information exchange to combat rising threats effectively. Sheikh Fahad stressed that shared knowledge and continuous collaboration form the backbone of modern law enforcement.

The meeting concluded with renewed pledges to deepen international security cooperation between Kuwait and Interpol. Sheikh Fahad expressed gratitude for the honor and reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to upholding global security and protecting communities worldwide.
