Qatar Advances Environmental Protection with National Desertification Strategy

Qatar has launched a new plan to fight desertification called the National Strategy to Combat Desertification 2025-2030. Qatar desertification strategy shows the country’s effort to protect natural resources and promote sustainability. Moreover, the plan aims to reduce land damage, fight drought, and protect the environment.

Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, said desertification and resource loss are serious environmental problems. Therefore, Qatar desertification strategy focuses on solving these issues through both local and international cooperation. In addition, the plan aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.

The strategy provides a clear framework to stop land degradation. It strengthens laws and policies while improving resource management. Furthermore, it protects ecosystems and encourages sustainable development. The plan also uses scientific research, technology, and training programs to improve environmental management.

Qatar desertification strategy sets six main goals. First, it protects ecosystems and lowers desertification and drought risks. Second, it promotes sustainable management of natural resources. Third, it restores vegetation and damaged land. Fourth, it builds institutional capacity and encourages research and innovation. Fifth, it strengthens laws, policies, and governance. Sixth, it encourages community participation and partnerships.

The ministry works closely with national and international organizations to carry out projects under the strategy. For example, it restores degraded land, plants native species, and creates nurseries for local flora. In addition, the plan updates regulations to ensure sustainable use of resources. Moreover, the government uses modern technology to monitor progress and ensure all projects succeed.

Officials emphasize raising environmental awareness and providing training programs. They also encourage society-wide participation to achieve the plan’s goals. In addition, the strategy promotes applied research, smart agriculture, and artificial intelligence to improve resource management.

The Wildlife Development Department continues efforts to combat desertification. For instance, it restores rangelands, controls invasive plants, and enforces rules to protect vegetation. Furthermore, it monitors development projects to maintain ecosystem balance and support national environmental goals.

Finally, senior officials attended the launch ceremony, including representatives from municipal, environmental, academic, and research sectors. The event highlighted Qatar’s commitment to long-term sustainability and environmental protection.
