4-Day Workweek Praised for Boosting Dubai Productivity

The 4-day workweek praised across Dubai’s government sector continues to reshape summer working patterns. Thousands of employees are enjoying the benefits of this flexible system, introduced through one innovative proposal. Dr Mohammed Suhail Al Muhairi, a government employee, originally suggested the idea that became Dubai’s ‘Our Flexible Summer’ initiative. His proposal focused on reducing hours during the intense summer season by shortening workdays and offering Fridays off or reduced.

The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) adopted the idea and rolled it out as a formal decision. The initial pilot ran in 2024 with 15 government entities taking part. As expected, the pilot phase delivered impressive results. Productivity soared, customer service improved, and employee satisfaction climbed significantly. DGHR tracked all aspects of implementation and confirmed substantial gains across operational indicators.

Performance reports showed that 87 percent of employees completed tasks more efficiently. Customer service satisfaction hit 96 percent with no complaints recorded. Additionally, employee morale and motivation rose by 98 percent, showing overwhelming support for the model.

These outcomes led authorities to expand the initiative across all departments this summer. Under the scheme, staff can either work eight hours Monday through Thursday and take Friday off, or work reduced hours on Fridays. The 4-day workweek praised by officials also caught the attention of DGHR Director General Abdullah Ali Bin Zayed Al Falasi. He publicly honored Dr Al Muhairi and lauded his contribution.

Moreover, he stated that individual ideas like this can influence wider policies when supported properly. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to flexible work models that empower people to create solutions. According to Al Falasi, the initiative confirms Dubai’s dedication to innovation and employee well-being. He noted that empowering people to suggest and implement ideas fuels sustainable development.

The 4-day workweek praised within Dubai’s public sector stands as a strong example of people-driven reform. With strategic support and leadership encouragement, one idea has transformed the work experience for thousands. Officials now hope similar approaches can enhance productivity and happiness across the region, proving that bold ideas still matter.
