Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince’ Passes Away After Two Decades in Coma

Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal, famously known as Saudi Arabia’s Sleeping Prince, has died after spending 20 years in a coma. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement on Saturday.

The prince, a nephew of billionaire investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, had been in a coma since 2005. A severe car accident that year left him hospitalized and dependent on life support. Despite years of medical care, he never regained consciousness.

His family shared their grief in a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressing “profound sadness and sorrow.” They announced that his funeral would be held in Riyadh on Sunday.

Over the years, Prince Al Waleed became a symbol of endurance for many across the Arab world. Millions prayed for his recovery, holding onto hope even as the years passed.

His family occasionally shared updates, including videos and photos of him in the hospital. In one emotional image, he lay covered with the Saudi Arabian flag, accompanied by the words: “Our Country is in Our Hearts.”

Five years ago, a video showed slight finger movements, sparking renewed hope among supporters. Unfortunately, a full recovery never came.

While his life was marked by tragedy, Prince Al Waleed’s story also inspired countless people. His long battle became a testament to human resilience, keeping his memory alive in the hearts of many.

As Saudi Arabia mourns his passing, tributes pour in from across the region. His legacy as the Sleeping Prince will endure, reminding the world of both fragility and strength.
