Bisht Kimono Represents Saudi-Japanese Cultural Harmony at Expo 2025

The Bisht Kimono emerged as a symbol of cultural harmony at Expo 2025 in Osaka, captivating visitors from around the world. This unique artwork was unveiled during Saudi Cultural Week, held from July 12 to 15.

Bisht Kimono blends the traditional Saudi bisht with the elegance of the Japanese kimono. This artistic fusion celebrates shared values of craftsmanship, identity, and creativity. The Royal Institute for Traditional Arts (Wirth) presented this masterpiece to represent Saudi Arabia’s vision of cultural innovation.

During the live event, Saudi artisan Salman Al-Hamad collaborated with Japanese artist Yuho Ohkota. Together, they crafted the Bisht Kimono using detailed embroidery and modern techniques. However, their work impressed audiences by merging cultural depth with contemporary aesthetics.

The exhibition coincides with two important events. First, it aligns with the “Year of Handicrafts 2025,” a national celebration of traditional arts. Second, it honors the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Japan.

Furthermore, the event forms part of Saudi Arabia’s broader mission to promote traditional arts globally. By supporting artisans and showcasing heritage, the Kingdom aims to inspire creativity and cultural pride. The institute’s presence at Expo 2025 demonstrates its dedication to reviving legacy through innovation.

In addition, the Bisht Kimono reflects the institute’s long-term goal to nurture talent and preserve national identity. By blending historical motifs with modern designs, Wirth continues to redefine how traditions are shared and celebrated.

Saudi Cultural Week offered more than just an exhibition. It provided an immersive experience filled with music, design, and storytelling. Attendees engaged with live performances, artisanal displays, and workshops highlighting Saudi heritage.

In conclusion, the Bisht Kimono not only honors history but also opens a path for future collaborations. It stands as a testament to creative unity and cross-cultural respect. As Saudi Arabia continues to spotlight its cultural wealth, such works are building bridges between nations.
