The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has launched a major upgrade project at one of Qatar’s prominent religious landmarks. The Ali Al-Attiyah Mosque renovation officially began this week in the Industrial Area. This is part of a broader national plan to modernize and maintain mosques across the country.
This renovation aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to the Qatar National Vision 2030. The Engineering Affairs Department is leading the effort to enhance mosque infrastructure. Moreover, the goal is to keep pace with population growth and provide an improved spiritual environment for worshippers.
Built in 2001, the Ali Hamad Abdullah Al-Attiyah Mosque spans more than 23,000 square meters and hosts over 2,200 worshippers. The mosque features two tall minarets, spacious ablution areas, and designated parking, including access for people with disabilities. An adjacent Eid prayer ground also serves thousands of worshippers during major religious events.
The Ali Al-Attiyah Mosque renovation project includes a complete upgrade of the main prayer halls. Workers will replace the mosque carpets and install a new central chandelier. The plan also covers roof waterproofing and replacement of all flooring. Additionally, it includes major overhauls to the air conditioning, electrical, and sound systems.
The adjacent Eid prayer area will also undergo maintenance to support large gatherings. In addition, the Ministry will implement green building features. For instance, they will use energy-saving LED lights and water-efficient sanitary fixtures to conserve resources.
Officials from the Engineering Affairs Department confirmed that this work is part of the Ministry’s annual maintenance strategy. The goal is to preserve mosque aesthetics, improve function, and provide a serene place for worship. The department also highlighted ongoing mosque construction projects in heavily populated areas.
The Ali Al-Attiyah Mosque renovation reflects the Ministry’s wider mission to develop religious infrastructure. They aim to serve both current and future community needs. The Awqaf Ministry also continues to promote the role of mosques not only as houses of worship, but also as cultural and educational centers. These centers support spiritual and social development.
