Recently, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq, Mohamed Al-Hassan, visited Karbala for high-level meetings. He met with Governor Nsayif Jassim Al-Khatabi to explore development goals and future cooperation.
During their talks, Al-Hassan praised Karbala’s recent progress and its significance for Iraq’s national development. Additionally, he stressed the UN’s strong interest in deepening its partnerships in the region.

UNAMI currently employs 648 staff members in Iraq, including 397 Iraqis and 251 international experts. Together, they help local authorities access the UN’s broad technical support system.
