Timmy Davis, the outgoing US Ambassador to Qatar, highlighted the growing strength of the US-Qatar partnership during his farewell briefing. He emphasized that the relationship now surpasses traditional alliances.
“This relationship is mature,” Davis said. “We are not just allies; we are close and trusted friends.”
Moreover, Davis spoke warmly about his three years in Qatar, calling it his second home. “Qatar welcomed me warmly and gave me a true sense of belonging,” he added.
In addition, he praised Qatar’s ongoing commitment to regional diplomacy and humanitarian work. He especially highlighted Qatar’s key role in mediation efforts in Gaza.
“Qatar plays a central role in seeking peace,” Davis explained. “Together, we constantly push for meaningful solutions.”
Furthermore, Davis shared a moving moment about the release of American detainees from Iran, made possible by Qatar’s mediation.
“One detainee hugged me on the tarmac,” Davis recalled. “That moment truly shows the meaning of the US-Qatar partnership.”
He also urged both countries to shift focus from crisis reaction to crisis prevention. “By acting early, we can stop problems before they escalate,” he said.
In addition, Davis praised Qatar’s humanitarian impact through the Qatar Fund for Development and called for stronger cooperation.
“Their work is impressive and effective,” he noted. “Therefore, we should deepen our joint efforts.”
Although optimistic, Davis admitted leaving was difficult. “This is not goodbye,” he said. “It marks the start of a new chapter built on trust.”
He advised his successor to connect personally with the community. “Attend weddings, visit families, and always be present,” he recommended. “Because human connection drives diplomacy.”
Moreover, Davis commended the Qatari media for their dedication to transparency and accountability.
“You ask tough questions,” he said. “Your work is vital for democracy.”
He also celebrated the recent US president’s visit to Qatar as a historic success, economically and diplomatically.
“The agreements signed show what the US-Qatar partnership can achieve,” Davis said. “Indeed, it sets a model for global cooperation.”
Finally, he encouraged both nations to continue building on their shared foundation.
“Our collaboration changes lives,” he concluded. “That remains the most important achievement.”
