3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum Joins Forces with IOC’s Olympic Museum

Doha/Lausanne – The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum and the Olympic Museum in Lausanne have launched the Olympic Heritage Artists in Residence programme. This initiative invites international artists to create groundbreaking works. These works will be featured at the LA28 Olympic Games as part of the Cultural Olympiad.

The programme will select two artists for two-month residencies in either Doha or Lausanne. These artists will explore digital and immersive media, crafting unique pieces that redefine sports culture through technology. The final artworks will become part of the permanent collections of both museums.

Strengthening the Connection Between Sports and Art

Abdulla Yousuf Al Mulla, Director of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, emphasized the deep connection between sports and the arts. “Since ancient times, sports and the arts have gone hand in hand, fostering community and promoting values of excellence and respect. This programme highlights that enduring relationship and celebrates artistic innovation in the Olympic spirit.”

The initiative will be an annual event, fostering cultural exchange and pushing the boundaries of artistic expression in the realm of sports. The goal is to bridge international borders. It aims to unite artists in the pursuit of excellence.

Who Can Apply?

Emerging artists under the age of 35 by December 31, 2025, are eligible to apply. Their work must involve digital or immersive media, including artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality, or data-driven art. The submission deadline is May 31, 2025.

An international panel of experts will review applications. They will select artists based on their creativity, technical expertise, and ability to enrich sports culture through digital media. The winning artists will be announced on July 16, 2025.

Residency Benefits and Awards

The selected artists will participate in the residency from October 1 to December 1, 2025. They will gain exclusive access to museum collections, studio spaces, and mentorship from leading professionals. The Doha residency will be hosted at Fire Station. Meanwhile, the Lausanne residency will take place at La Becque Artist Residence on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Each artist will receive a cash award—QR30,000 for the Doha residency and €8,000 for the Lausanne residency. Their final works will be acquired for the museums’ permanent collections.

By providing this platform, the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum and the Olympic Museum aim to inspire fresh perspectives on sports culture. This effort reinforces the enduring link between art and the Olympic movement.
