The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 17.6 kilograms of methamphetamine, locally known as “shabu,” through the Empty Quarter border crossing.
In a statement, ZATCA said inspectors discovered the narcotics during a routine inspection of an incoming truck.
The drugs were hidden inside the fuel tank of a vehicle being transported on the truck.
Following the seizure, ZATCA immediately coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC).
Authorities confirmed the arrest of two individuals linked to the smuggling operation inside the Kingdom.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strict customs control over Saudi Arabia’s imports and exports.
It emphasized efforts to protect society from the dangers of drug trafficking, working closely with the GDNC.
ZATCA urged all citizens and residents to contribute to the fight against smuggling to safeguard society and the national economy.
