President of Uzbekistan H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a high-level meeting with H.E. Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, Speaker of Qatar’s Shura Council. Other Arab parliamentary leaders attending the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) were also present. The assembly is currently taking place in Tashkent.
The Uzbek president praised the growing ties between Qatar and Uzbekistan, describing them as a strong and evolving strategic partnership. He also highlighted the exceptional parliamentary relationship between the two countries. This reflects the commitment of both leaderships to deepen cooperation across various sectors.
President Mirziyoyev welcomed the presence of the Qatari delegation in Tashkent. He described the visit as an important opportunity to exchange ideas and strengthen parliamentary collaboration for mutual benefit. He expressed optimism that the assembly would yield productive outcomes, contributing to sustainable development and promoting the values of cooperation and understanding among nations.
Speaker Al Ghanim participated in the opening session of the IPU Assembly, which was officially launched by the Uzbek president. In his remarks, Al Ghanim stressed the significant role parliaments play in promoting peace, social justice, and development. He called for greater parliamentary collaboration in tackling global issues such as poverty, climate change, armed conflict, and the empowerment of women and youth.
He also advocated for peaceful conflict resolution, particularly in the cases of Ukraine and Palestine. Additionally, he proposed the creation of a global platform for young parliamentarians to foster dialogue and cooperation, in line with the IPU’s mission.
