Abu Dhabi – The UAE has streamlined its residence permit issuance, renewal, and modification process. It is now more efficient and accessible through digital services. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has outlined the steps for residents to apply for, renew, or modify their residence permits. This reflects the nation’s commitment to digital transformation and automation.
To apply for or renew a residency permit, applicants are required to log in using the UAE Pass through the ICP’s official online platforms. Once logged in, users must select the individual for whom the service is being requested, choose the necessary service, and ensure the details are correct. If needed, applicants can update the retrieved data. They can then proceed with the payment of any applicable fees.
After submission, applicants will receive confirmation via email to their registered address. Their Emirates ID, linked to the residency application, will be delivered through approved courier services. The entire process, from submission to delivery, typically takes no more than 48 hours.
How to Apply for a Residence Permit
The residence permit issuance service allows foreign professionals and workers to obtain a new residency permit through two main channels. These are the Customer Happiness Centres (during official working hours) and the Smart Services System (available 24/7). Applicants must ensure they log in with their UAE Pass to access these services.
Key steps for applicants include:
- Reviewing and updating retrieved application data, if necessary.
- Attaching any required documents, especially if data retrieval via integration is unavailable.
- Paying the applicable fees.
- Tracking the progress of the application via the available channels.
Documents Required
To complete the application, individuals must provide the following documents:
- A valid passport.
- A recent personal photo.
- Additional documents, depending on the application type (e.g., proof of relationship for family sponsorship).
By simplifying the process and enhancing digital access, the UAE is making it easier for residents to manage their residency permits efficiently. This reduces minimal hassle.
