U.S. Accuses Iraq of Withholding Troop Locations Amid Rising Regional Attacks

Iraq security coordination dispute escalated on Wednesday after the United States accused Iraq of failing to share troop deployment information. The accusation comes amid rising attacks involving armed groups across the country. Officials say the issue affects operational safety and military coordination.

In Iraq, tensions increased as Washington raised concerns over security communication gaps. A U.S. State Department official said American forces requested precise Iraqi troop locations. They made these requests in recent weeks to prevent accidental targeting during operations.

Moreover, the official stated that Iraq did not provide the requested coordinates. He stressed that U.S. forces need accurate data to protect units on the ground. He also linked the concern to ongoing attacks involving Iran-aligned armed groups. Iraq security coordination dispute therefore became a key point in bilateral military relations.

In addition, U.S. officials said their forces continue defensive operations in the region. They explained that their priority focuses on protecting personnel and facilities. Furthermore, they described some armed factions as Iran-aligned militant groups. These groups operate across different parts of Iraq.

Armed factions under the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for multiple attacks. These groups include elements linked to the Popular Mobilization Forces. They launched rocket and drone strikes on various targets in recent months.

For example, attacks targeted areas near Baghdad and Erbil airports. In addition, strikes hit the U.S. embassy zone in Baghdad. Other incidents also affected the Harir base in Iraq, located in the northern region.

Furthermore, the U.S. military responded with air operations against PMF positions. These strikes took place inside Iraqi territory. Officials said they aimed to reduce threats against US personnel and facilities.

As a result, Iraq security coordination dispute continues to deepen diplomatic and military tensions. Both sides maintain different interpretations of operational responsibility. However, security concerns remain central to ongoing discussions.

Analysts say the lack of coordination increases risks during active operations. Therefore, both governments may face pressure to improve communication channels. Meanwhile, armed attacks continue to complicate the security landscape.

Iraq security coordination dispute highlights growing strain between Baghdad and Washington. The situation remains sensitive as regional conflict expands and security challenges increase.
