Trump Delays Iran Strike After Gulf Mediation Push

US President Donald Trump said he had postponed a planned military strike against Iran following appeals from Gulf leaders who urged Washington to allow more time for negotiations.

In statements published on social media and later repeated during a White House appearance, Trump said the planned operation had been delayed after discussions involving the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates.

The Trump says he’s postponing ‘scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow’ at Middle East leaders’ request comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf and continuing uncertainty surrounding negotiations linked to Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security issues.

Trump said Gulf leaders requested a short delay because they believed diplomatic discussions were progressing toward a possible agreement acceptable to both Washington and regional partners. He added that the United States would remain prepared for military action if negotiations fail to produce a satisfactory outcome.

The remarks came against the backdrop of ongoing instability around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route that has faced disruptions during the broader confrontation involving Iran and the United States. Energy markets and regional security have remained sensitive to developments in the area, given the strategic importance of Gulf oil exports.

Although there had been no official prior announcement of an imminent strike, Trump stated that military preparations had been under consideration and that senior defence officials had been instructed to remain ready if necessary.

Regional powers in the Gulf have increasingly sought to balance security concerns with efforts to avoid a wider conflict that could threaten energy infrastructure, trade routes, and economic stability across the Middle East.

The Trump says he’s postponing ‘scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow’ at Middle East leaders’ request also highlights the growing diplomatic role played by Gulf states in mediating regional crises and maintaining communication channels between global powers and Tehran.
