Thick Fog Disrupts Flights and Travel Across Kuwait

Kuwait experienced dense fog early Sunday, causing widespread travel disruption and flight delays. The heavy mist created severe weather disruption across the country.

The Meteorological Office reported that a sharp temperature drop and high humidity caused the thick fog. Temperatures in Mitribah, near Abdaly, fell to 10 degrees Celsius at dawn. Meanwhile, desert regions recorded temperatures between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius, with humidity rising above 90 percent. This combination produced hazardous visibility conditions across multiple areas.

The fog directly affected airport operations. Flights scheduled to land in Kuwait diverted to neighboring countries, while departing flights faced long delays. Many passengers waited up to nine hours before flights resumed. Airport officials coordinated with airlines to restore schedules efficiently and safely.

By late morning, visibility gradually improved. Airlines still managed delayed flights throughout the evening. Passengers returned home or continued their journeys once operations normalized.

The interior ministry advised motorists to drive cautiously. In several areas, visibility dropped to almost zero, creating dangerous road conditions. Fortunately, authorities confirmed no major accidents or casualties occurred during the fog.

Officials predict lighter fog early Monday. However, heavier fog may return Wednesday and Thursday, potentially causing another round of severe weather disruption. Authorities urge residents to plan travel carefully and monitor official weather updates.

The fog highlighted challenges Kuwait faces during seasonal temperature changes. High humidity combined with sudden cooling often reduces visibility and delays transportation. Quick responses from airport staff and traffic authorities helped minimize risks, maintain safety, and reduce potential chaos.

Social media users shared images and expressed concern about the fog. Many praised authorities for managing the situation effectively and ensuring safety during severe weather disruption.

Kuwait remains vigilant as the week progresses. Officials continue preparing for more fog while emphasizing precautions to prevent accidents. The authorities’ proactive measures aim to protect travelers and maintain smooth transportation during periods of severe weather disruption.
