Thai Cuisine Week Brings Thailand’s Flavours to Qatar

The Thai Restaurant Week campaign has launched across Qatar, bringing the country’s cuisine and cultural traditions closer to residents. The Royal Thai Embassy introduced the initiative on September 3 during a launch event in Doha. The campaign brings together 12 Thai restaurants and offers specially prepared dining experiences through September 19. Meanwhile, organisers aim to highlight Thailand’s culinary heritage while strengthening cultural connections between Qatar and Thailand.

The launch reception took place at Saffron inside Banyan Tree Doha Hotel, attracting more than 100 invited guests. Attendees included representatives from Qatari government institutions, diplomatic missions, businesses, media organisations, and social media communities. Guests experienced several activities designed to showcase Thailand’s cultural identity through food and traditional craftsmanship. These activities included cultural performances, live cooking demonstrations, fruit carving, and tastings from participating restaurants.

Thailand’s Ambassador-Designate to Qatar, Pensom Lertsithichai, highlighted the broader cultural importance of the campaign. She noted that Qatar and Thailand maintain longstanding relations supported by mutual respect and strong people-to-people connections. Furthermore, she emphasised how food and cultural traditions can encourage deeper understanding between communities. Culinary exchanges therefore provide an accessible way for people to discover another country’s heritage.

The campaign will continue until September 19 at 12 participating Thai restaurants across Qatar. During that period, each restaurant will offer specially designed menus at fixed prices of QR39, QR59, or QR89. Depending on the restaurant, customers can enjoy these offers during lunch, dinner, or throughout the entire day. The menus aim to present different flavours, cooking techniques, and traditions associated with Thai cuisine.

The initiative also encourages residents and visitors to explore the cultural stories behind Thailand’s dishes. Rather than focusing only on dining, organisers want guests to understand the traditions influencing Thai culinary practices. In addition, the campaign offers an opportunity to discover distinctive ingredients, preparation methods, and regional flavours. As a result, participating restaurants can introduce customers to a broader experience of Thai food culture.

Participating venues include Thai Kitchen, Pochana, CHX N RISE, Sabai Thai, and Khaosan. Other participating restaurants include Isaan, The Siam, Thai Aroi, Sritubtim, and Saffron. Together, these establishments provide customers with different dining environments and interpretations of Thai cuisine. Consequently, visitors can choose from several locations while experiencing the campaign’s special menus.

Thai Restaurant Week also includes an interactive social media campaign for residents and visitors. Participants can share their experiences on Facebook and Instagram using the campaign’s designated hashtag. Additionally, organisers have arranged a raffle offering several prizes connected with participating venues. These prizes include dining vouchers and pool access at Banyan Tree Doha Hotel.

The campaign provides restaurants with an opportunity to showcase their menus to a wider audience. At the same time, customers can discover restaurants they may not have previously visited. The fixed-price offerings also give diners several options across different price points. Therefore, the initiative combines cultural promotion with opportunities for local restaurants to attract new customers.

Thai Restaurant Week reflects the role that culinary diplomacy can play in strengthening international relationships. Food often creates informal opportunities for people from different cultures to meet and exchange experiences. Moreover, restaurants can serve as spaces where cultural traditions become accessible through everyday experiences. This approach can complement diplomatic and economic cooperation between countries.

For Qatar, the initiative adds another international cultural experience to the country’s diverse dining landscape. Residents can explore Thai flavours while learning more about the traditions connected to them. Visitors can likewise experience elements of Thailand without leaving Qatar. Overall, the campaign brings Thai cuisine, cultural heritage, and community engagement together through a nationwide restaurant promotion.
