Tanawwo’, a global initiative by the Qatar Precision Health Institute (QPHI), is helping reshape international efforts in genomics and precision health. The network launched in December 2024, following a two-day workshop in Doha.
The word Tanawwo’ means “diversity” in Arabic. This reflects the project’s core mission—to bring together voices from different countries and backgrounds to solve shared health challenges.
Through such events, Tanawwo’ brings innovation and connection, as was evident at its launch, where the workshop welcomed experts from 17 nations. They explored innovations in biobanking, predictive genomics, and future-ready healthcare systems. As a result, it sparked ideas and partnerships that continue to grow.
According to Dima Darwish, Genomics Education Expert at QPHI, building trust and exchanging knowledge are just as important as scientific data. “Tanawwo’ is about people, ideas, and making progress together,” she said.
Since then, the initiative has expanded. It now offers researchers a digital space to share data, compare findings, and build joint projects. Through this cooperation, Tanawwo’ has been influential in turning research into clinical action.
In May 2025, QPHI held a second workshop in Algeria. This session focused on bioinformatics, including gene sequencing, data analysis, and artificial intelligence in genomics. Participants learned how to apply these tools in real-life healthcare settings.
Tanawwo’ stands out due to its focus on practical solutions. It promotes ethical data use, secure patient privacy, and faster translation from lab to clinic.
Moreover, the platform supports global equity. It invites experts from underrepresented regions, encouraging inclusive dialogue and balanced participation.
Looking ahead, QPHI plans more workshops across Africa, Asia, and Europe. Each will focus on key topics such as molecular diagnostics, digital health tools, and AI-powered medical research.
“This is just the beginning,” said Darwish. “We are building something bigger—together.”
By encouraging diverse thinking, long-term partnerships and embodying the principle of Tanawwo’, the initiative is helping shape the future of global health.
