State Audit Institution 2024 Annual Report Released

The State Audit Institution 2024 Annual Report outlines significant achievements in transparency, accountability, and governance across Oman. To begin with, Sheikh Ghuson bin Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Audit Institution (SAI), personally presented the report to Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.

Throughout 2024, SAI focused all its efforts on fulfilling its national duties with efficiency and professionalism. Moreover, the report emphasizes how SAI built strong institutional and societal partnerships to support the Sustainable Development Goals. In line with legal requirements, SAI also submitted the report to the Council of Ministers, State Council, and Shura Council.

Additionally, the State Audit Institution 2024 Annual Report details audits of government units, authorities, investments, and companies. These audits followed Oman Vision 2040 goals and adhered to INTOSAI’s international standards. As a result, SAI completed 225 audit tasks and issued 172 audit reports after analyzing risks and materiality.

Furthermore, SAI directly informed the relevant entities of its findings. Many responded positively by applying corrective actions and implementing the recommended changes. When necessary, SAI referred cases involving criminal suspicion to the Public Prosecution.

Equally important, the report also shows SAI’s commitment to integrity and anti-corruption efforts. It includes statistics on financial and administrative violations and the responses taken. In this context, SAI reviewed Oman’s compliance with the United Nations Convention against Corruption and participated in related events, agreements, and committees.

In addition, SAI evaluated draft laws, regulations, and systems prepared by audited institutions. It provided structured feedback to ensure better alignment with governance standards. To strengthen public awareness, SAI organized campaigns and training programs that promoted integrity and protected public funds.

Notably, the audit scope covered various high-impact sectors. These included energy, aviation, water, electricity, minerals, environment, food security, and wastewater. SAI reviewed the State’s final accounts for 2024 and assessed the tax system and operational performance across several government directorates.

Meanwhile, the State Audit Institution 2024 Annual Report highlights SAI’s role in community partnership. Citizens submitted 1,378 reports related to financial misconduct, abuse of power, and tender violations. SAI resolved nearly 90% of these reports and received praise from the United Nations ESCWA for its complaint system.

Finally, the report details 187 media and awareness programs conducted by SAI. These initiatives aimed to raise ethical standards and encourage transparency in both institutions and society. The State Audit Institution 2024 Annual Report reflects SAI’s growing impact on Oman’s public sector reform.
