Shura Council Urges Iran to Halt Aggression and Support Dialogue

The Shura Council urged Iran to halt aggression, pursue dialogue, and preserve regional stability amid rising tensions.

It welcomed a recent UN resolution condemning Iranian attacks on Qatar and other regional countries, calling for their immediate cessation. The resolution, the Council noted, reflects broad international consensus rejecting unlawful and unjustified aggression.

The Shura Council urged the international community and regional parliamentary organisations to act responsibly to stop serious violations of Qatar’s and other states’ sovereignty. It warned that continued attacks could have far-reaching consequences for regional and global security.

The Council highlighted threats to maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, noting that disruptions have affected global energy markets and supply chains. Officials described this as one of the largest supply disruptions in the history of the global oil market.

It also cited a World Food Programme warning that escalating military developments could disrupt supply chains and threaten food security for millions in the region.

During the session, the Speaker congratulated Qatar’s citizens and residents on the upcoming Eid Al-Fitr, wishing them health, safety, and prosperity. Following this, Secretary-General Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud presented the session agenda. The Council then discussed the listed items and issued necessary decisions.

The Shura Council stressed the importance of halting aggression, protecting civilians, and maintaining stability, calling on regional and international actors to support diplomacy.
