DOHA – The Shura Council has called for urgent action to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. During its Monday session, the council strongly condemned Israel’s move to block relief supplies. It described the action as a violation of international laws and agreements.
The session, led by Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, stressed the need for uninterrupted humanitarian assistance. The council urged international parliamentary bodies to ensure aid reaches civilians without delay.
The speaker referenced Article 70 of the First Additional Protocol of 1977, which guarantees civilians’ right to humanitarian relief. He also cited Red Cross Rules 55 and 56, which mandate unrestricted aid flow during wartime.
“The safe and sustainable flow of relief must be a priority,” he stated. “Civilians should not be deprived of essential supplies.”
The council extended warm Ramadan greetings to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. It wished the Qatari people and all residents a peaceful and prosperous holy month.
During the session, Secretary-General HE Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud read the agenda. The members approved the minutes of the previous meeting before discussing legislative matters.
The council examined a draft law on water regulations, referred by the government. It sent the proposal to the Health, Public Services, and Environment Affairs Committee for further review.
Additionally, the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee presented its report on boosting Qatar’s tourism economy. The council reviewed the recommendations and made an appropriate decision on the matter.
The session also included discussions on recent international parliamentary events. Members reviewed reports on two major meetings. The first was an Inter-Parliamentary Union symposium on the 10th anniversary of the Arms Trade Treaty. The second was the Arab Parliament’s legislative session in Cairo.
The Shura Council reaffirmed its stance that the safe and sustainable flow of relief to Gaza must continue. It called on global leaders to act swiftly to prevent further suffering.
With each passing day, the need for humanitarian support grows. The Shura Council remains firm in its call for the safe and sustainable flow of relief. It urged the international community to stand united in ensuring aid reaches those in need.
