Qatar Museums has revealed a new addition to its Public Art Collection—“Privileged Points,” a major sculptural installation by renowned contemporary artist Nairy Baghramian. This is now on display at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park.
The installation was officially unveiled by Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums. It was in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Ali Salehabadi, Ambassador of Iran to Qatar, and Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi, CEO of Qatar Museums.
Baghramian’s work is known for merging architectural elements with the human form. It explores how time, memory, and cultural context shape our interactions with space. “Privileged Points” continues this tradition with its tubular bronze structures coated in soft pastel lacquer. These rest delicately on bulbous, organic bases. The installation was first exhibited in 2017 at Skulptur Projekte Münster in Germany. It is designed to adapt to different sites and configurations, making each display unique to its environment.
Sheikha Reem Al Thani, Acting Deputy CEO of Exhibitions, Public Art, and Rubayia at Qatar Museums, highlighted the work’s cultural relevance. It resonates within the MIA Park setting. She described it as “bold, thought-provoking contemporary art” that fosters dialogue and reflection across cultures.
The sculpture engages with core sculptural themes—mass, form, balance, and material. It also encourages viewers to reflect on the connections between history and modernity. Its gentle hues and fluid shapes harmonize with the natural surroundings of the park. This invites public interaction and contemplation.
This installation is part of Qatar Museums’ ongoing initiative to bring world-class public art to accessible outdoor spaces. This enriches the cultural landscape and promotes artistic dialogue in the community.
