Sharjah has been officially named the Guest of Honour at the 30th Rabat International Book Fair (RIBF). The event is set to take place in Morocco from April 17 to 27, 2025. This recognition reflects the emirate’s commitment to cultural exchange and literary advancement. It is inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
The announcement was formalized through an agreement. It was signed by Khoula Al Mujaini, Director of Events and Marketing at the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), and Latifa Moftaqir, General Coordinator of RIBF and Director of the Moroccan Archives Foundation. The selection of Sharjah as Guest of Honour underscores the strong historical and cultural ties between the UAE and Morocco. It reinforces intellectual collaboration between the two nations.
Strengthening Cultural Ties
Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA, emphasized that this recognition is an opportunity to deepen cultural connections between the UAE and Morocco. She noted that literature and the arts serve as powerful mediums for fostering dialogue and strengthening shared heritage. “This honour is not just a tribute to Sharjah but a platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise between the Arab world’s eastern and western regions,” she said.
Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid, Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication, highlighted that Sharjah’s participation would allow visitors to experience its rich literary and artistic contributions. He recalled Morocco’s previous participation as Guest of Honour at the Sharjah International Book Fair. This event showcased the emirate’s dedication to cultural and literary development.
A Diverse Cultural Programme
As Guest of Honour, Sharjah will present an extensive cultural programme celebrating Emirati literature, history, and artistic achievements. More than 15 Emirati publishers will showcase their latest works. Emirati authors and intellectuals will participate in panel discussions alongside Moroccan counterparts.
The programme will also feature workshops for children. These will offer interactive sessions on Emirati heritage. Traditional performances will highlight the UAE’s cultural diversity. Arabic calligraphy sessions will bring together Emirati and Moroccan artists to create collaborative works that reflect their shared artistic traditions.
Sharjah’s participation in RIBF 2025 aims to provide an immersive literary and cultural experience. It will further solidify its status as a global hub for knowledge and creativity.
