Saudi Arabia’s leadership has sent messages of condolence to Thailand following the death of Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidol, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
King Salman extended his sympathy to the Thai monarch, the royal family, and the people of Thailand, according to the Saudi Press Agency. Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman also sent a separate message of condolences.
The princess, aged 47, died on Thursday after a prolonged hospital stay following a sudden health collapse in 2022, according to Thailand’s Bureau of the Royal Household.
She had been receiving treatment in Bangkok after falling ill during military training, and had remained under medical care for nearly three years.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha was widely known for her work in legal and criminal justice reform. She led initiatives aimed at improving conditions for female prisoners and promoting rehabilitation and reintegration programmes.
Educated in Thailand and the United States, she served in various legal and diplomatic roles, including work with Thailand’s mission to the United Nations and as ambassador to Austria.
Her passing has prompted tributes in Thailand, where officials described her as a respected figure in public service and social reform.
