Saudi Energy has launched a tender for Riyadh Expo 2030 power infrastructure to support the upcoming global event. The project includes the construction of three 132/13.8kV substations and all associated works. These facilities will connect directly to the national electricity grid, ensuring reliable power supply for the Expo site and surrounding developments.
The initiative forms part of the Kingdom’s broader infrastructure program to prepare Riyadh for millions of visitors. By strengthening the transmission and distribution network, these substations enhance operational reliability and grid capacity. Consequently, the project supports both the Expo and future urban growth in the capital.
Furthermore, Saudi Energy’s Project Development Company has started removing overhead transmission towers along Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road. These towers will be replaced with underground cables. This development aligns with the goals of the Sports Boulevard Foundation, improving the urban landscape while maintaining energy efficiency and sustainability.
In addition, Expo 2030 Riyadh is expected to drive significant investments in transport, utilities, and energy infrastructure. Therefore, the substations form a critical part of ensuring seamless operations during the large-scale international exhibition. They also reflect Riyadh’s commitment to modernizing its power systems to support long-term urban and economic development.
Saudi Energy emphasized that this tender opens opportunities for contractors and investors to contribute to a high-profile national project. With increasing attention on the Expo, timely completion of the substations remains a priority. By integrating these new facilities, the capital can ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during peak demand periods.
Moreover, the project highlights the Kingdom’s strategic focus on sustainable energy and modern infrastructure. Upgrading grid capacity and moving power lines underground enhances both reliability and resilience. As a result, the project demonstrates a balance between urban development and environmental considerations.
Riyadh Expo 2030 power infrastructure is a key enabler for Saudi Arabia’s Expo preparations. It strengthens the energy network, supports future urban expansion, and ensures that Riyadh is ready to host an international audience safely and efficiently.
