Saudi Arabia Offers Safe Return for Dissidents Without Consequences

Saudi Arabia is offering a path for dissidents to return to the Kingdom without facing any consequences, according to the Head of the Presidency of State Security, Abdulaziz al-Howairini. This initiative aims to reintegrate individuals who have previously opposed the government. Al-Howairini emphasized that dissidents who have been used by external forces to criticize Saudi Arabia are welcome to come back, provided their opposition has been limited to ideological disagreements and they have not been involved in criminal activities.

The Saudi official made these comments during an appearance on MBC’s Hikayat Waad program. He reassured the public that dissidents would not face any legal actions if they had not participated in criminal acts within the Kingdom. Al-Howairini also stated that the country would not publicize the names of those returning. Instead, the Kingdom’s priority is rehabilitation, not punishment.

Dissidents interested in returning are encouraged to contact the designated number, 990, to provide their personal details and current location. Alternatively, they can have a family member reach out to authorities on their behalf. This initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s approach to counterterrorism and extremism, which focuses on support and reintegration rather than punitive measures.

The episode of Hikayat Waad also covered Saudi Arabia’s broader counterterrorism efforts. Al-Howairini highlighted the critical role Saudi society plays in combating extremism. He noted that approximately 20% of detainees in the country were arrested either at the request of their families or through cooperation with them. This cooperation demonstrates the strong partnership between the government and the public in maintaining security and stability.

In conclusion, Saudi Arabia’s offer for dissidents returning to Saudi Arabia without facing consequences marks a shift toward rehabilitation. The Kingdom is focused on supporting individuals who wish to reintegrate into society. This approach, along with the country’s counterterrorism efforts, aims to foster a safer and more stable environment for all citizens.
