Saudi Arabia Celebrates World Animal Day with Strong Commitment to Welfare and Awareness

Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its dedication to animal welfare in Saudi Arabia as the nation joined the global community in celebrating World Animal Day on October 4. The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture led nationwide efforts to promote compassion, responsibility, and respect for all living creatures.

The ministry organized exhibitions, educational events, and community programs that brought together citizens, students, and animal care experts. These initiatives aimed to build stronger public awareness and highlight the importance of protecting animals and preserving biodiversity. Officials emphasized that safeguarding animals reflects both moral values and national responsibility.

Moreover, the ministry focused on strengthening cooperation between stakeholders, including veterinary centers, animal shelters, and non-governmental organizations. By doing so, it encouraged joint action and shared knowledge to improve the conditions of animals across the Kingdom. This collaboration stands as a vital step in promoting sustainable animal welfare in Saudi Arabia.

A major contributor to these efforts is the Saudi Animal Welfare Society, known as Refq. The organization works tirelessly to create a culture of kindness toward animals and aligns its initiatives with Islamic teachings that advocate mercy and care. Refq provides shelter, medical treatment, and rehabilitation to animals in need while supporting the re-adoption of stray animals through organized programs.

Additionally, the society focuses on reducing the number of stray animals using humane and scientific methods. It also runs awareness campaigns that educate the public on responsible pet ownership and the ethical treatment of all species. These activities ensure that compassion becomes a core part of community values.

Refq continues to expand its reach by partnering with international and regional organizations. Through training sessions, workshops, and joint projects, the society ensures that local practices align with global animal care standards. It also represents the Kingdom in global conferences focused on animal welfare in Saudi Arabia and worldwide.

As Saudi Arabia strengthens its environmental and humanitarian goals, the nation’s proactive approach sets a strong example for others. By embracing compassion and collaboration, the Kingdom continues to prove that caring for animals is a reflection of both cultural identity and national progress.
