Saudi Arabia Backed Iran Peace Diplomacy Efforts

Saudi Arabia has been praised by Iran for its role in ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at easing regional tensions and supporting a potential end to conflict involving Tehran and its international rivals.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi discussed recent developments during a telephone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan on Monday, according to Iranian media reports.

The talks focused on regional security issues and the latest developments surrounding a proposed memorandum of understanding linked to negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Araqchi expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic engagement and its contribution to efforts aimed at restoring stability and reducing escalation across the region.

The two sides also stressed the importance of continued consultations and coordination between Tehran and Riyadh to support broader peace and security initiatives in the Middle East.

The conversation came amid reports of a breakthrough agreement following weeks of negotiations reportedly mediated by Pakistan with support from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey.

According to Pakistani officials, the proposed understanding could pave the way for a halt in military operations across multiple fronts, including Lebanon, with a formal signing expected later this month in Switzerland.

Iranian officials later confirmed that discussions had progressed, while emphasizing that implementation of commitments by other parties would remain a key condition before moving forward with future negotiations.

The renewed diplomatic engagement reflects the growing regional role played by Gulf countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, in mediation efforts and conflict de-escalation initiatives across the Middle East.
