The Saudi capital will host the first edition of the Arab European Cities Dialogue Forum from May 11 to 13. The event will be held under the theme “City Partnerships for a Better Future.” Riyadh was chosen as the inaugural host due to its growing influence in urban development. The selection highlights the city’s rising prominence in both regional and global municipal affairs.
The forum is jointly organized by the Arab Urban Development Institute, PLATFORMA—the platform of the Association of European Municipalities and Regions. It is also organized by the International Agency of the Association of Dutch Municipalities.
The event will bring together city leaders and experts to discuss shared urban challenges and explore collaborative solutions. Key topics on the agenda include infrastructure development, improving municipal services, digital transformation, sustainable financing, and climate change. The forum will also address the importance of multi-level cooperation among cities and urban actors.
Riyadh’s hosting of the forum highlights its commitment to advancing municipal innovation and strengthening international partnerships. The event aims to serve as a dynamic platform for connecting Arab and European cities with real investment and funding opportunities. Direct engagement with donor institutions and development funds will help stimulate local projects. These projects will be within sustainable and integrated frameworks.
A wide range of participants is expected. They will include mayors and municipal leaders from Arab and European cities, as well as representatives from international urban organizations, municipal unions, and donor agencies. Their participation will make the forum a global meeting point for urban decision-makers and development stakeholders.
