Regional Security and Stability at Heart of UAE-Qatar Dialogue

President Sheikh Mohamed of the United Arab Emirates and Sheikh Tamim, Emir of Qatar, held a phone conversation on Tuesday to discuss the recent Israel-Iran ceasefire and its impact on regional security and stability. During the call, Sheikh Mohamed praised Sheikh Tamim for his instrumental role in securing the truce.

He emphasized the importance of continued coordination and joint efforts among Gulf nations to ensure the ceasefire’s success and promote peace throughout the Middle East. Sheikh Mohamed expressed hope that this ceasefire would help bolster security, stability, and peace across the region.

Following the failed Iranian attack on Qatar’s Al Udeid airbase on Monday night, President Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s full solidarity with Qatar. He condemned the attack and praised Qatar’s swift measures to safeguard its sovereignty and protect its citizens. The attack, which came as retaliation for recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, forced Qatar, Bahrain, and Iraq to close their airspace temporarily. Several flights had to divert due to these closures, raising concerns over regional aviation safety. Sheikh Mohamed also asked about the well-being of the Qatari people and expressed the UAE’s ongoing commitment to support Qatar through these challenging times.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump called on Israel to bring its pilots home after announcing the ceasefire, which Qatar and Oman helped facilitate. Trump’s statement highlighted the significance of diplomatic efforts by Gulf nations in de-escalating tensions in the region. In Doha, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, joined foreign ministers from other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states for the 49th Extraordinary Meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council.

The session, hosted by Sheikh Tamim, focused on enhancing Gulf cooperation mechanisms and discussed joint strategies to maintain regional security amid ongoing challenges. The ministers explored ways to strengthen unified Gulf action and ensure lasting stability through cooperation. Sheikh Tamim expressed appreciation for the UAE’s solidarity and underlined the critical role of Gulf unity in facing current and future regional threats. Both leaders agreed that strong collaboration and diplomatic dialogue remain essential to securing peace and security in the Middle East.
