Doha, Qatar: The 11th edition of Qumra, Doha Film Institute’s (DFI) annual talent incubator, will provide 49 exceptional projects by emerging filmmakers from more than 20 countries with vital support and mentorship. This year’s lineup includes 16 projects by Qatari and Qatar-based filmmakers. This reflects the nation’s growing creative industry.
Qumra serves as a unique platform for mentorship, skill development, and industry networking. It helps filmmakers bring their visions to life. Participants will engage in in-depth sessions with Qumra Masters and top industry experts. In-person activities will take place in Doha from April 4 to 9. There will be online sessions from April 12 to 14.
Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, CEO of Doha Film Institute, emphasized the program’s impact on emerging filmmakers. She noted that Qumra offers not only financial backing but also creative and technical support. She highlighted the growing strength of independent cinema and praised the bold storytelling approaches of the selected filmmakers.
Among the 49 selected projects, 37 have received support from DFI’s Grants Programme. Meanwhile, 21 are graduates of DFI’s year-round training programs. These initiatives include the Feature Script Lab, Filmmaking Lab with Rithy Panh, Producers Lab, and Series Lab. This demonstrates DFI’s comprehensive approach to filmmaker development.
The public can experience Qumra through Master Classes, available with the Qumra Pass, and by attending Qumra Screenings. These screenings will feature outstanding films from the region and beyond, all backed by Doha Film Institute.
