Qatar’s Stars of Science Program Celebrates 17 Seasons of Innovation Across the Arab World

The Stars of Science program continues shaping the Arab world’s scientific future, celebrating 17 seasons of innovation. Since it began, the program has launched 55 businesses, engaged hundreds of educational institutions, and inspired thousands of young innovators to pitch ideas.

Hosted at Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), part of Qatar Foundation, the Stars of Science program grew from a TV show into a movement. It now reaches millions online and fuels a generation of Arab innovators who turn ideas into real solutions.

Season 17 winner Dr. Laid Dardabou from Algeria exemplifies this success. His ViDa smartwatch estimates vitamin D levels while supporting mental well-being. Judges praised it, and public votes crowned it the winner. He said the program transformed his journey, turning personal challenges into opportunities to inspire young scientists.

Across 18 countries, 175 alumni have created innovations in health tech, AI, sustainability, and education. Ziad Sankari, a Lebanese Season 3 finalist, gained White House recognition in 2015 for heart-monitoring technology. His startup, CardioDiagnostics, was acquired by CardioOne in 2025. Qatar’s Dr. Mohammed Al Housani launched the region’s first IP Management Clinic through Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation Council. Saudi finalist Dr. Hassan Al Balawi founded WakeCap, valued at over $200 million. Syria’s Dr. Nour Majbour turned her Parkinson’s diagnostic project into QABY and joined research teams at UCL and AstraZeneca.

Judges highlight that the program’s impact goes beyond technology. Dr. Bothaina Ali Al-Mulla, a Season 17 judge, said the Stars of Science program thrives on the contestants’ determination, mentors’ guidance, as well as the production team’s dedication. Alumni now mentor new contestants, keeping innovation cycles strong.

The program’s success is evident in transformed lives, inspired institutions, and a lasting culture of Arab scientific excellence. The Stars of Science program continues empowering innovators who will shape the region’s future.
