Qatar Supports Rwanda-DR Congo Peace Agreement in Washington Ceremony

Qatar supports Rwanda-DR Congo peace agreement during a historic signing ceremony held in Washington on Friday. The event marked a major step toward regional security and diplomatic cooperation, illustrating how Qatar supports peace deal efforts globally.

Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, represented Qatar at the ceremony. He stressed Qatar’s strong commitment to peace and dialogue in Africa. In particular, he emphasized that Qatar supports peace deals that enhance regional stability.

During his statement, Dr. Al Khulaifi praised the determination of Rwanda and DR Congo to pursue a peaceful path. He highlighted the courage and sincere commitment of both nations to resolve conflicts through dialogue.

Moreover, he expressed Qatar’s pride in playing a positive role in the peace process. Earlier this year, Qatar hosted important negotiations between Rwanda and DR Congo in Doha. That meeting included the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda, and President Felix Tshisekedi of DR Congo. It took place on March 18, 2025. This built strong momentum for the agreement and showed how Qatar supports peace deal initiatives worldwide.

Dr. Al Khulaifi also acknowledged the essential role of the United States in facilitating the peace deal. He thanked the US for supporting efforts to stabilize the Great Lakes region. This region has long suffered from tensions and security challenges.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the peace agreement supports the African Union’s mediation efforts. It also aligns with the outcomes of the Joint Summit of the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community. That summit was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on February 8, 2025, and encouraged greater regional cooperation. This reflects Qatar’s ongoing commitment to supporting peace deals.

Qatar supports Rwanda-DR Congo peace agreement by promoting inclusive dialogue and trust-building measures. Dr. Al Khulaifi reaffirmed Qatar’s readiness to work closely with regional and international partners. He stressed that Qatar stands prepared to support any initiative leading to lasting peace and prosperity for the region’s people.

As tensions ease, both Rwanda and DR Congo look forward to a new chapter of stability. With Qatar’s continuous support, observers hope the peace agreement will create long-term positive change.

In conclusion, Qatar supports Rwanda-DR Congo peace agreement as part of its broader strategy to foster diplomacy and regional peace. The agreement reflects the shared vision of all parties for a more secure and prosperous Africa.
